Large-diameter mobile ring seal for ball valves

Project :

Manufacture of a large-diameter mobile ring seal for a ball valve.
End-to-end sealing for mobile rings exceeding 3 metres.

Challenge :

Ball valves are becoming larger in size and more demanding in terms of strength, requiring polyurethane seals. In this case, a mirror joint is the most suitable end-to-end coupling solution.

Context :

These joints for hard mobile rings exceeding 3 metres were produced by mirror-jointing 95H polyurethane blanks in the PXL SEALS workshop.

PXL SEALS solution :

PXL SEALS used all the expertise of our in-house teams and a special machining technique developed in-house to produce this high-pressure seal, which is perfectly suited to high-head power plants.

The mobile-ring ball valve sealing solution is not necessarily a D profile, as we explained in one of our articles. In fact, our experience has enabled us to develop several types of solution that take account of the constraints that can be encountered on location in this type of application.


In order to take the problems of deformation, extrusion clearances and ring movement speed into account, from relatively low pressures to very high pressures in high-head power plants, PXL SEALS has developed several models of joints for mobile rings on ball valves.

Because operating conditions and requirements are becoming ever more stringent and we are pushing the limits further and further, we study the behaviour of our joints using digital simulation.
