Seals for framed valves - PXL HydroRubber

The sealing of framed valves is a major challenge for the safety, durability, and performance of hydroelectric structures.

Whether it’s for hydroelectric plants, dams, or locks, PXL SEALS offers innovative and tailored sealing solutions, including EPDM HydroRubber seals, developed through many years of expertise working with operators and maintenance teams

1. Specific challenges of sealing framed valves

Framed gates are exposed to harsh mechanical and environmental stress. These include segment gates, lift gates, roof gates, wagon gates, cofferdams, and flap gates.

To ensure a perfect seal over the long term, the systems must meet strict durability and environmental requirements:

  • Withstand prolonged exposure to water, air, and ozone, as well as temperature fluctuations,
  • Excellent resistance to breakage and tearing.
  • Minimize the environmental impact of sealing solutions

To meet these challenges, PXL SEALS has developed the PXL HydroRubber range, an EPDM 70 based elastomer compound specifically designed for gate valves and compliant with the DIN 19704 standard.

2. Available Sealing Solutions

PXL SEALS offers sealing profiles designed specifically for steel-framed valves, primarily produced via extrusion, manufactured in accordance with ISO 3302-1-E2, and typically made from the PXL HydroRubber compound:

  • Bulb and tail profiles: hollow or solid
  • Angle profiles and flat strips
  • Special profiles and molded corner blocks: To ensure perfect sealing even in critical areas.

We also develop all kinds of specific profiles according to our customers’ needs.

Custom frame manufacturing

In addition to profiles sold by the meter, we produce corner blocks and finished or semi-finished frames. The corner blocks are molded in our workshop.

Technical edge : Our frames are made in-house using our HLB hot-joining process, which is stronger than cold bonding.

These blocks can be delivered as supplements to extruded products sold by the meter, to enable on-site bonding in straight sections.

We currently offer a wide range of existing angle blocks and can also produce new ones to meet any specific need.

3. Key features of PXL SEALS framed valves seals

Given the principal constraints of these seals, we primarily suggest our EPDM HydroRubber compound, which has been specifically developed for these applications and tested in the lab.

The main advantages of PXL HydroRubber are :

  • It meets the specifications of major players in the hydropower industry (DIN 19704),
  • Exceptional lifespan and performance in water and outdoor environments (good ozone resistance),
  • It has limited environmental impact: safe for aquatic environments, no toxic emissions)
  • Excellent resistance to breaking and tearing.
